Mason Graduation 2012

Commencement will be held on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at Cintas Center on the Xavier University Campus. Commencement will begin promptly at 2:00 p.m. Doors will be open to the public at 1:00 p.m. Graduates should arrive at 12:30 p.m. Special seating will be available for handicapped guests. Tickets will not be required for commencement.

2 Mason Students to Represent Ohio at National History Day Competition

Mason students aren't just learning about history - they are making  history! On April 29, twelve Mason City Schools students competed in the Ohio History Day Competition at The Ohio State University.  MHS freshman Sonia Yeolekar and Mason Middle School seventh grader Aditya Jog each were selected to represent Ohio at the national competition in College Park, Maryland this June.

MHS Orchestras Collaborate with National Symphony

Orchestras Perform and Tour in Nation's Capital On February 22, 118 members of the Mason High School Honors Symphony Orchestra and Philharmonic Orchestra, along with director Stephanie Jones and parent chaperones, traveled to Washington D.C. to collaborate with the National Symphony Orchestra. The trip, paid for by orchestra members and their families and through fundraising efforts, also included performances and tours throughout our nation's capital. MHS Juniors to Attend Buckeye State Program

Seven juniors will represent Mason High School at the Buckeye Boys and Girls State programs this summer. Sponsored by the American Legion, this week long program is a hands-on experience designed to educate young men and women in the duties, privileges, rights, and responsibilities of good citizenship. Students develop leadership and pride as American citizens; learn about our system of government and the organization of political parties; and develop a greater understanding of American traditions.

MHS Speech & Debate Team Succeeds at State:

Sets New School Record Members of the MHS Speech & Debate Team had another successful showing at the 85th Annual Ohio High School Speech League State Tournament at Jackson High School in Massillon, Ohio, on March 2 & 3, 2012. The team set a new school record for the total number of State finalists in one season as well as the number of competitors in a final round! Mason also tied for 8th place out of 65 Ohio teams in Team Sweepstakes. "We were so proud that MHS brought home the hardware," shared Melissa Donahue, speech & debate advisor.

MHS Students Earn Top Scores on American Legion Test

Five Mason High School students came out on top after taking the annual American Legion Americanism and Government Test. Seniors Sahir Rama and Molly Simeur, junior Alex Severson, and sophomores Kaitlyn Barnes and James Gao earned high scores on this optional test, administered in the fall. John Looker, Commander of the Joe Barr American Legion Post 194 in Mason, presented certificates and cash prizes to the five winners on March 20, 2012.

2 MHS Seniors Represent Ohio in 2012 Honor Band of America

Mason High School seniors Thomas Probel and Christopher Rueda joined other outstanding musicians from across the nation March 15-17 as part of Music for All's 2012 Honor Band of America. They were selected from hundreds of applicants from across the country for membership in this prestigious honors ensemble and were the only two musicians selected to represent Ohio. Rueda was also named first chair clarinetist.

High Fives to...

...the 2,245 MHS Students named to the Honor Roll 2nd trimester. 1,158 students earned highest honors, 678 students earned high honors, and 409 students earned honors.
